Have you had that immaculately planned day when you intended to achieve so many things on your to-do list? But when you woke up, you felt so drained that dragging yourself out of your warm comfy bed was a real struggle.
The tough reality
With your brain all foggy, you kept on flipping between one task and another, but hardly completing anything since you found it difficult to concentrate.
Despite your best intentions, after flagging throughout the day, you disappointedly stared at your long to-do list. You had hardly ticked anything off. You collapsed in bed, feeling deflated and maybe even guilty because you achieved so little from what was your immaculately planned day.
And you know what? That’s completely understandable, because you’re constantly juggling so many balls as you’re relentlessly prioritising your client work, your business, your family… and then you rarely, if ever, have any time or energy for yourself.
Managing your time has its limitations
Managing your time can only go so
As much as you love your work and your life seems to revolve around it, it’s also about having the energy to enjoy what you love and what matters to you in all areas of your life. When you’re far too tired, you may struggle to relish those precious moments with your loved ones fully. Or you might not have the energy to properly enjoy your favourite hobbies or pastimes or whatever else is important to you.
So having energy plays an essential role in you being able to enjoy your life and make the most out of it.
This is why, when I work with my clients, we don’t just cover how to manage their time more effectively, but also about how to manage their energy levels so that they can be on top form every day and throughout the whole day, avoiding slumps and lulls.
Time Management vs Energy Management
Energy is about our capacity to work, or achieve things, or simply to make the most out of each moment.
While our time is fixed – we all have the same 24 hours – there are ways in which we can boost our energy levels.
And downing countless cups of tea or coffee or cans of your favourite ‘energy’ drink isn’t a sustainable long-term answer to your vitality.
You’ve probably heard the saying ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’ more times than you care to remember. Yet, you just can’t see what you can do to turn things around while spinning so many plates.
If the above resonates with you and you’ve had enough of trying ineffective short-term fixes and are ready to stop trying to pour out of an empty cup, it’s time to look at how you manage your energy levels, not just your time.
