How to Plan for an Exciting and Fulfilling Year Ahead?

December 28, 2016 By Mira Rutter Leave a Comment

Many of us have the tendency to focus on what we haven’t achieved rather than appreciating what we actually have accomplished, regardless of how big or small it is.

The time for setting New Year’s resolutions is fast approaching. There are three broad categories that people tend to fall into when doing this:

1. Those that don’t bother to set resolutions or goals, who think what’s the point since I rarely seem to achieve the ambitions I set for myself.
2. Those that tend to give up or forget about it all by the end of January or February as things get tough and they revert back to their old ways.
3. Those who view and review their goals regularly and plan what actions they are going to take to achieve what they want.

Sometimes we don’t achieve everything we set out to achieve… and that’s fine because sometimes things change and we get to accomplish other things that are more relevant.

As I wrote at the start, often we focus on what we haven’t done rather than celebrating what we have achieved. I know I’m guilty of that. Earlier this month I felt like I hadn’t achieved certain things in terms of our coaching practice and that it wasn’t where I wanted it to be by December. Yet when I took a moment to think about it, I realised that this year I have experienced the biggest professional growth and development of my whole career. I have learnt so much about websites, social media, marketing, online courses, public speaking and many other elements of running a business. I have stretched myself way beyond my comfort zone, yet when talking to family and friends I’d focus on other metrics.

Now, it’s time to stop criticising or beating ourselves up for not achieving every goal we have set ourselves, but instead to celebrate all that we have accomplished and take a different approach to New Year’s resolutions in 2017. Let’s connect with what we really want from our lives, what really inspires and excites us, and the positive difference we can make. That way we can make this coming year’s ambitions more than just a tick box exercise…

To get you started, we have created a simple exercise to help you review 2016 and celebrate your learnings and achievements, and then plan for an exciting and fulfilling 2017. Get your planner here.

I’ve already started on mine, and I am looking forward to a fantastic and thrilling year ahead. I am planning on getting on bigger stages to reach and inspire more people to take greater control of their lives so that they can be healthier, happier and fulfilled.

FROM THE BLOG

Happy Monday! The other day, I was talking to one of my friends about New Year’s resolutions. When I asked him what his were he said, “Not many New Year’s resolutions. The key is to have low expectations I guess, the disappointment will be lower.” My heart sunk. What’s your approach? Do you set New […]
